STORY: Nyungwe Washing Station was built in 2006 and named after the nearby Nyungwe Natural Forest. Rwanda Trading Company purchased the station in 2013 from the previous owner and began to prepare the station for a new model of operation, one focused on specialty coffee!
The station officially began purchasing cherries and operating the mill in March 2014. When RTC took over the ownership of the mill, farmers were enrolled into agronomy training program (ATP) and have since gone through a module of best agricultural practices and financial literacy. The past two years, RTC is focused on rejuvenating their farms, and has already distributed over 200,000 coffee seedlings for free and farmers are able to expand their farms and replace old trees.
Rwandan coffees can be surprising for many folks who have never tried it. The quality is excellent and coffees tend to be really sweet! Civil unrest and corruption has always been an obstacle for the coffee industry in Rwanda, but when there is stability, there are some lovely gems like this coffee!
We roast and ship every Monday & Thursday. Orders must be received by 5PM on Sunday and Wednesday to ensure it gets added to our production. Orders placed after 5PM on on Sunday and Wednesday will be roasted and shipped out the next production day.
Please Note: Taxes have been included in the price.
